The Church of God reached Virginia in the early 1900's by establishing three churches in Carroll County, VA.  The church of God at Cliffview was organized in 1915 on Fries Road in Galax, VA.

The history of the Cliffview Church from its beginning in 1915 involves several pastors as the local church ministered to the spiritual and worship needs of the community.  From its inception, the Church of God had experienced many great periods of revival from 1915 to 1969.

During the 1970s the church began to experience a period of revival that brought about rapid growth.  This rural church had progressed from a small community church with limited means to become one of the most prominent churches in the state denomination.

The 1970s growth was during the pastorate of Pastor Tom L. Bird who served from 1969 to 1988.  During his service a new church sanctuary was constructed in 1974 to accommodate the rapid change in attendance.

Pastor D.G. Fox continued the progressive ministry of the church from 1988 to 2001. Pastor Fox continued the campus expansion in 1999 with the addition of a Family Life Center which included the addition of new classrooms, catering style kitchen, and a gymnasium.

Pastor Ron Hill came to pastor Cliffview in 2002 and currently serves as Senior Pastor.  Since his arrival in 2002, the church has renovated church property, planted a hispanic church, and welcomed the addition of the new Soul Cafe', a Christian coffee shop and youth facility.
